Single-Coil Electric Guitar by JBP®
Guitar Review Series
©Darrell Young

So, you want to bend the strings like Clapton, play blues/rock like Beck, or distort your world like Hendrix! This JBP® Electric Guitar (Model JBG165) is an excellent place to start.

It seems like there are dozens of guitars on the market that imitate the excellent Fender Stratocaster®. The Internet is full of all sorts of cheap, tinny sounding, $99.00 deals. But, most of them are for mysterious "hardwood" (plywood) body guitars, with non-maple necks, and non-rosewood fingerboards. This JBP® guitar, while being just above the price range of the cheapo specials, is NOT constructed like, nor sounds like these imitations.

In fact, it's not even in the same class! The JBP has a solid ASH body (not a cheap plywood laminate), a real MAPLE neck, a genuine ROSEWOOD fingerboard, and chrome DIE-CAST sealed tuning machines.

It comes with three excellent sounding "staggered" magnet single-coil pickups. The adjustable bridge is exquisite. I compared the sound to my own Fender® Strat Highway 1 USA Special, and it was within 90% of the same sound through my Fender Cyber Twin amp. I really had to listen hard to tell any difference. The JBP has that distinct bell-like twang and electric sound. I don't know how to describe it. It sounds like pure electricity. My Fender® does it and so does my JBP®. I guess that the word "chime" describes it to a degree. Both guitars have this chiming overtone that is very nice.

The JBP is slightly heavier than my Fender. The Fender has an solid Alder body, where my JBP has an solid ASH body. I am not a guitar wood man, but I understand that some of the higher-end strats ($1000.00 +) use ASH as the body wood. I do know that both guitars have incredible sustain and power.

I love guitars, and I am NOT interested in selling cheap, lame, plywood junkers. If you absolutely can't afford to pay $139.95 for a quality guitar, then there are plenty of sub-hundred dollar specials available on eBay. The cheapies will act like an electric guitar, and make lots of loud guitar noises, so you'll be able to play. But, you're trading some things away by buying a plywood clone. The sound is NOT the same!

With an ASH bodied strat, like the JBP, you'll have the long sweet sustain you need to play the blues, and the gravelly mid-range to knock out some decent power chords. With the solid MAPLE neck, you'll be able to set the action and intonation properly, so it will play in tune up the neck. You'll experience the bright sound that only a real ROSEWOOD fingerboard can provide. It has a standard vintage style wiring scheme, tremelo unit with whammy bar, along with three pure chiming open-coil pickups. Don't be fooled by imitations! If you can afford it, buy yourself a real Fender Stratocaster®. The USA versions start at only about $600.00, and are INCREDIBLE guitars. But, if you are on a budget, and still want a quality guitar, get one of these JBP's. It uses standard size pickups, so that you can use any aftermarket pickups you'd like, such as Seymor Duncan, D'Marzio, or even Fender® brand.

Listen, I'm serious about the difference in quality you'll find between this JBP® and most of the other guitars selling for less than $300.00. Look around for a while on the internet, if the ads don't mention a SOLID ASH body, then you're not gonna get one! If they don't say you get a MAPLE neck, and a ROSEWOOD fingerboard, then, you aren't getting one. In most cases, the ads will not even mention the materials in the guitars. Remember this...these ads are like contracts. If they don't say it, you're not getting it! When you are satisfied that I am not making this up, come back here and buy this one. You can get a good quality guitar with the proper materials, but not at this price normally. Check and see! Most of the solid bodied (non-laminate) Strat® clones, with real maple and rosewood, and die-cast tuners, are selling for a lot more than $139.95!!! YOU can get a much better quality and sounding guitar for only marginally more money than the $99.00 "El Cheapo Laminate Specials."

This is the PREMIUM JBP® Electric Guitar, an ADULT guitar with basically the same specs as many genuine Fender Brand® Strats, but MUCH lower in cost!

These are BRAND NEW, first-quality, factory sealed instruments, not a second or refurb. They come with a basic patch cord and an allen wrench to adjust the neck, plus one for the bridge, if needed. They have a full one-year warranty! I am an authorized JBP® dealer, and my invoice is proof-of-purchase to activate your warranty.

I hope you'll consider this guitar if you're a serious student or a regular player on a budget. It plays better than its price! I promise you that this is not a piece of junk clone with no sound. I absolutely guarantee you that this axe will blow away the rest of the sub-$200.00 Strat clones, and will push the edge of the $500-$800.00 genuine Strats. In my opinion, this baby sounds better than any Squier Strat I've ever heard. It has great sound, volume, and tone, with pure electric glass-breaking bite. You'll be impressed!
